Court orders reinstatement of student expelled over rape, awards him N10 million

Adedotun Babalola, who was expelled from the University of Ekiti over rape allegation, has secured victory at the Ekiti State High Court where an order was issued yesterday for his reinstatement and a payment of N10 million as damages.

Justice John Adeyeye who gave the judgment, held that the University management constituted a breach of fundamental human rights to fair hearing for expelling the student without trial. He ruled that the university should write a letter of unreserved apology to be published in three national newspapers.

Babalola was accused four years ago over raping one Bosede Olatunji who, according to the court, has shown no interest in the case.
