To avoid a potential mis-translation, the leader of the Catholic church, Pope Francis, has suggested that he would modify the most popular christian prayer; the Lord’s prayer.
In an interview with Reuters, Pope Francis said the phrase “lead us not into temptation” could be translated to mean that God leads people to sin and that, according to him, is bad.
As replacement, he prefers the phrase “do not let us fall into temptation” which is more direct and unambiguous. It is unclear when this change would be made official as the Pope is yet to say.
In the same interview, he weighed in on President Donald Trump’s decision to acknowledge Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The Priest expressed his ”profound concern” and urged that “everyone respects the status quo of the city.”
